Women's football team improves to 9-0.
The Fresno BeeThe Central Cal War Angels are still perfect, posting a convincing 34-0 win over the Portland Shockwave in the first round of the Women's Football Alliance playoffs Saturday in Visalia.
Chantel Wiggins threw for three touchdowns, two to Lisa King and one to Beth Gutierrez, and Destanie Yarbrough and LaStar Brown each rushed for a TD.
Safety Ashley Thiner had an interception, and the team's two-leading tacklers Jeannette Jimenez and Lisa Castodio helped stuff the ground game as the defense notched its fourth shutout.
The War Angels (9-0) will host the Utah Jynx (7-2) — 36-26 winners over the Seattle Majestics — at Groppetti Automotive Community Stadium at Golden West High at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $8 and $5 for youth. Children under 12 are free.
